DR. A. H. SMITHS: OLD STYLE BITTERS O. S. 2781 Dr. A. H. Smith started manufacturing Bitters in a small town called Carrollton, Illinois. At some point he would relocated to St. Louis, Missouri. This company was called Union Medicine Company Sole Proprietor. It is thought that the early applied top bottles were from Carrollton and the less cruder bottles from St. Louis. There are two variants listed. Below are photos of a DR. A. H. SMITHS / OLD STYLE BITTERS // F// O. S. 2781. This example is light golden amber. Below is a advertised from the Andrew Co. Republican newspaper from Savannah, Mo. 1873. The other variant reads DR. SMITHS / OLD STYLE BITTERS // F // O. S. 2781 / THE STARDARD TONIC / AND BLOOD PURIFIER.
