FRUIT KEEPER GC CO. : FRUIT JAR

The Fruit Keeper jars were first made by the Giles & Clough Glass Co. from Redkey, Indiana. This company was incorporated on Jan. 7, 1893. John S. Giles was from the Safe Glass Co. and Henry H. Clough was from the Bowling Green Glass Co. from Bowling Green, Ohio.

The first Fruit Keeper jar according to the earliest advertisement was June 17, 1895. it was place in the Burlington Gazette from Iowa.

On Nov. 13, 1897 a William Buttler from the Marietta Glass Co. in Redkey, Indiana purchased John Giles half interest. Now the company was known as the Redkey Glass Co.

The Redkey Glass Co. also made the Redkey oil cans.

The Redkey Glass Co. was sold to the Ball Brothers in 1899.

In 1902 the Redkey Glass Co. was destroyed in a fire and was never rebuilt.

These jars were made in the sizes pint, quart and half gallon. The Fruit Keeper jar was only made for a few years. The jar has a ground lip with a glass top seal lid and a wire and double cam metal clamp. The clamp is stamped Pat. Mar,30 86. this clamp was also used on the Brighton jar and the Magic (Star) Fruit Jar.
